In his forty-four years of ministry, God used James Johnson to start ten churches. In 1992 he was burdened to start the last of these works, Bible Baptist Church. God greatly blessed the ministry of he and his wife, Bonnie, and allowed them to touch many lives with the Good News of the Gospel.
Bible Baptist Church held its first service on September 20, 1992, with five or six families in attendance. In these first days, the church met in two office suites near Countryside High School. In 1994, the church moved to a storefront near Countryside Mall.
In 1997, God opened the door to purchase two acres of land at the current location, and, after much prayer, sacrifice, and labor, Bible Baptist moved into its new building in 1998. The Lord continued to bless and the church soon outgrew its facility. A new sanctuary was constructed and held its first services in April 1, 2005.
With his work at Bible Baptist drawing to a close, the Lord renewed a forty year old desire in Pastor Johnson’s heart for the mission field. Upon his resignation and “retirement,” Bible Baptist church conferred the title of Pastor Emeritus upon him as he began a work assisting Filipino nationals through HeartBEAT International Missions. Though retired from the ministry of Bible Baptist Church, the Johnsons' work continues.
Bible Baptist Church has been used by God to reach many souls for Christ and is prayerfully looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, for His continued blessing as they strive to “earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints.” Under the leadership of their current Pastor, Jason Wiley, the church moves forward with a desire to help people in Palm Harbor and the surrounding areas love God, learn the Bible, and live it out every day.
